 Lectio + Haiku -- December 2007

Haiku

With a strong heart, doubt;
certainty can suffocate
a winter's patience.

        -- Greg, Seattle

Be patient. Listen.
New friends make wisdom blossom
Unexpectedly.

        -- Brad, Port Townsend

Refract, your knowing!
Unbind the womb of your heart.
Christ, received anew.

        -- Karen, Port Townsend

The seed does not grasp
that it waits, or what comes; We
wait because we know.

        -- Brad, Port Townsend

We wait for the rain
God tells us to be patient
Our flowers will grow

        -- Katie, Port Townsend

Now it’s raining and
there will be oil. The olives
know why they waited.

        -- Brad, Port Townsend

Beloved patience
Precious crop of earthen hearts
Farmer Lord, tender

        -- Elisabeth, Port Townsend

Elusive patience
comes more easily to some
with beloved friends.

        -- Tere, Port Townsend

Prepare me, O Lord
Coming test of who I will be
Make my heart strong

        -- Nancy, Port Townsend

Anticipation
has its own pleasure—and so,
my beloved, wait.

        -- Margaret, In the Courtyard

Scripture

James 5:7-8

Be patient, therefore, beloved,

until the coming of the Lord.

The farmer waits for the precious crop

from the earth, being patient with it

until it receives the early and the late rains.

You also must be patient.

Strengthen your hearts,

for the coming of the Lord is near.
